STRUCTURAL RETROFIT

Structural repairs, retrofit and rehabilitation is a process of reconstruction and renewal of a facility or its structural elements. This involves determining the origin of distress, removing damaged materials and causes of distress, as well as selecting and applying appropriate repair materials that to perform a correct repair.

Under federal goverment  retrofitting of existing Buildings is an eligible activity under FEMA HMGP and PDM that involves modifications to the structural elements of a building to reduce or eliminate the risk of future damage and to protect inhabitants.  

The structural elements of a building that are essential to protect or to prevent damage include foundations, load-bearing walls, beams, columns, building envelope, structural floors and roofs, and the connections between these elements.
